Summer is coming up quickly; would you like to eat great foods directly at the farm? Do you want your children to learn all about their foods’ path from the field to the plate? Join us for our Farm to School summer camp at Hudson Heartbeet Community Farm during which children will get the opportunity to: meet young producers, follow their vegetables from field to the market, attend workshops on food transformation, entomology (science of insects) as well as animal genetics. Every Friday, parents, children and grandparents will be invited to participate in the Big Quiz in which theys will compete against one another on various agro-environmental topics that they have learned throughout the week! To finish off the week, the kids will prepare a market to sell fresh and local produce. PROGRAM: Week 1: August 13 to 17 (in English) theme- Return to the field Summary: Throughout this week, the kids will be invited to follow the farm’s producers in their everyday activities, to learn more about the journey of their foods. We will also explore modules about the Earth, vermicomposting, food production, and organic agriculture. Week 2: August 20 to 24 (in French) theme- Farmer for a week Summary: This week will be dedicated to being a producer for a week in order to help out the employees of the farm. We will get to go in the fields to help with the harvest, weeding, and washing of the produce before getting them market ready. We will also explore other modules on organic agriculture and food production.
